Ray Lewis (Saturday)with NEW FULL SIGNATURE.
Now we have to pay more for a better signature. I'm done.

I hear and understand your frustration.
While I’ll always want to see the best looking signature possible from every signer, I can not respect someone changing their signature, especially with timing like this. Where was this signature all along ???
Personally, I wanted an autograph from Ray, even made a custom helmet for him to eventually sign...but I could not justify the cost of his original chicken scratch “signatureâ€, so to date I’ve always passed (and ended up modifying the helmet and using it for someone else). I would be OK with paying for the new signature, but I’m not entirely sure I want to be one of the collectors who enable this type of nonsense to happen. So out of principle, I may end up passing again (for my own piece of mind....not because I believe that my boycott would have any type effect).
While not personally affected, I can feel the frustration for the numerous collectors who paid good $ for his original chicken scratch sig earlier this year. Now he rolls out a new sig, a few months later, after the HOF surge rush is in the past ? Nice timing, for a new money grab.
In my opinion, athletes need to come up with a signature (not chicken scratch) right from the beginning, and stick with it. If you wanna do an abbreviated/rushed signature when being mobbed by fans at a practice, airport or whatever that’s one thing, but when people are paying for your autograph you better give them their money’s worth. Changing a signature after several years, shows a complete lack of respect for all of those who have paid good money for your autograph to date, clearly they just don’t matter. If they don’t like the old one, they can just buy the new and improved one, right ?
I don’t know who spearheads this type of nonsense, but there is no way that the athletes aren’t at least on board with it, and that’s not cool at all. Shame on Ray, and everyone else who is involved in this ridiculous money grab scheme...
Sincerely,
A disgusted bystander
