I didn't attend the fanatics show in boston but I've only heard about the lackluster attendance, high ticket prices, and low ticket sales.
I give them credit for being the first company since tri-star to come in from out of the area and put on the show but they had a lot of problems with the guest lineup.
They had many local players that do shows here constantly. Guys like Jim Rice, Carlton Fisk, Cam Neely, Ray Bourque, Steve Grogan, Terry O'Reilly, Luis Tiant, etc... appear at shows out here quite often, and while they might consistently be good draws, you need to have variety and names that aren't here often to get the die-hard collectors that will spend money to come to these shows.
Maybe it was bad timing schedule wise for this show but for a show of this magnitude to go on in a region that has had 3 world series championships, 3 super bowl championships, a NBA championship, and a stanley cup championship all in the last 12 years and have less than a handful of guests from those titles at this shows a flaw in their planning for this.
They attempted to have a Red Sox 04 reunion show and that didn't work, but how bout a Pats SB reunion show as its been 10 years since the 3 SB in 4 years. I think they failed to understand that guys like Tedy Bruschi and Ty Law would sell more than Bruce Smith and Dick Butkus.
If Fanatics makes another venture out here, and for the collectors I hope they try to, they should reach out here to the customers and ask who they would like to see. I can't tell you how many times I e-mailed tri-star in the past and actually saw alot of the guests I suggested end up at the shows and that made me support their shows even more.
